Summer Lovin'

It’s on a dreary and drizzly autumn morning that I dream about summer the most. I miss the feel of sand beneath my toes, the sun in a bright blue sky, and the smell of delicious food floating on the breeze. Summer seems a million miles away. Why am I reminiscing about summer? Last week, I found out about that Eventbrite had a project called Hometown Hunt.

Eventbrite is an amazing platform that helps you discover and promote your own events! I’ve used it several times to find events in Auckland and it has never failed! Maybe one day I’ll stop being a chicken and actually go to an event. If you’re interested in creating or promoting your own events then click this link to discover how Eventbrite can make it a little easier 🙂 All the amazing events and locations made me want to share my favourite summer spot with you: Luke’s Kitchen. luke's-kitchen-kuaotunu-new-zealandThat sign says it all. Kuaotunu is a small coastal village in New Zealand. It has the traditional peace and love vibes that you would expect. Everyone knows everyone and welcomes the summer crowd (and odd winter straggler) with open arms. Luke’s Kitchen is the place to go for, well…everything. They are well-known for their wood fired pizzas, killer drinks, and live music from some very talented locals. I heard about this place a couple of days after I moved to Kuaotunu in 2012. Honestly, I was shocked that a place like this could exist in such a small town, but I’m glad it does. My friends and I have spent countless hours sitting around tables eating pizzas, listening to music and catching up. We’ve made friends with the staff, with other locals and with tourists passing through the town. The best part about it is that you get to see the pizzas being made and cooked in front of you. Actually, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or if it’s just torture.

Anyone who knows me is well aware that I love a good pizza and that’s exactly what you get from this place. However, if you’re a mutant pizza-hater then there is a bucket load of other stuff to try: salads, chowders, wraps, traditional fish and chips, brownie, cheesecake, or a banana split. I’m sure you’ll be able to find something that you like 🙂

If the restaurant isn’t for you, then you can get your food ‘to go’ and wander down the road to the beach. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t do that at my old house! You can grab your food and eat it on the grassy reserve or walk a bit further and eat it right on the beach. I’m pretty sure you know which one I would prefer 😉 I mean, who could say no to this view? kuaotunu-beach So, if you’re ever in the Coromandel area or are suck for a holiday idea then you should definitely consider Kuaotunu! We have beaches, pizza, beaches, alcohol, beaches, live music, and beaches. I might be a little biased, but this place is pretty damn beautiful.

The beach spot looks so lovely! Just a matter of convincing my family to take a trip here and putting the 24 hour plane journey to one side 😉

I went here for the first time in January when we were staying in Matarangi and it is by far one of the coolest places I’ve ever eaten. The pizza…out of this world!! =) Thanks for an awesome reminder of summer!
