The Perfect Bucket List for a New Zealand Summer

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the bucket list.

Heck, it’s no secret that I’m a fan of lists in general.

I have a bucket list and a 101 in 1001 list that I want to accomplish. I get an odd satisfaction from crossing things off a list. Someone please tell me I’m not the only one. I’ve been thinking about how this is going to be the last summer that I’m on my own for the rest of my life. The reality of having a baby is starting to sink in and I have a constant internal monologue running, which consists entirely of: ‘oh crap, I haven’t done xyz!’, ‘but I still haven’t managed to do…’ and ‘I really wanted to do xyz before xyz’.

You get the idea.

If you’ve seen my bucket lists then you’ll know that I have a lot of things that I want to accomplish in my life. So, why not add another list of things to do during the summer? There’s nothing better than a New Zealand summer, so I had to compile a list of things I want to do. I saw the idea for a summer bucket list on Steph’s blog, and I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon as well!

In a weird way, this summer is a ‘last hurrah’ for me as I kiss goodbye to my selfish ‘ridin’ solo’ lifestyle. I know some people go on a babymoon during their pregnancy, but I’m still undecided if this idea is for me. I’m not doing maternity photos. I’m not doing newborn pictures. At this point, I’m not 100% sure I want a baby shower either. And it’s not because I’m not happy or that I don’t love my baby, but because I hate attention, I’m also tired and stressed enough.

However, I do know that I need to do some things for me this summer as a celebration of what I have done in my short twenty-two years of life. I had someone say: ‘yes, you’re pregnant but you’re still you as well’ and it really hit home. I’ve always believed it, but I just needed a little reminder. My world has not stopped spinning just because I’m pregnant. My life has changed, but I still have things that I want to do, and I’m taking this summer as my chance to cross a few things off my list(s).

  • Spend an afternoon on the beach (just because I can)
  • Read a whole book in a day
  • Visit the zoo
  • …and the Auckland Sky Tower
  • Attend a high tea (I just went to a high tea at Bellini with the #NZBloggers, but I’m dying to go to another one or create my own)
  • Go on an astronomy tour
  • Have a picnic in the park

Whitianga-Coromandel New Zealand

  • Go on a weekend getaway (which may or may not be a babymoon, I guess, for myself #singlelife)
  • Witness a sunrise (or sunset) on the beach
  • Try the Kuaotunu killer
  • Eat pizza on the beach
  • Have a proper brunch with waffles and bacon
  • Try and find New Chum Beach
  • Send a friend a care package

Auckland Viaduct Harbour, Auckland New Zealand

  • Spend the whole day in bed (and not feel guilty for it)
  • Attend a potluck
  • Stay awake to see in 2017 (because I might have fallen asleep at 11pm last year)
  • Try my hand at DIY for baby’s nursery
  • Explore Waiheke Island

The perfect summer looks different to every person. I am a bookworm and a bit of a nerd, so I am completely content to stay in bed and read a book or tap away on my laptop. Living on the Coromandel means that I have constant access to some of the best beaches and walks in the country. However, I have had several complications in my pregnancy. I’m on orders to ‘not do anything crazy’, so I probably can’t go for long walks or hike up any hills. Needless to say, this summer is going to be a very relaxing one. My first in a long time.

No complaints here!

What’s on your summer (or winter) bucket list?

    Hi Victoria!
Your summer bucketlist looks amazing!!! You got this :). It is amazing that you live on the Coromandel. I really wanted to visit Hot Water beach when I was there in September. Sadly, I wasn’t in NZ long enough. Also, it was raining like crazy back then. Hopefully I will be able to return in the near future.
    Have fun on your adventures!

I am a list maker also, and crossing things off gives a rewarding feeling. Beautiful pictures.

Yay! I’m super pleased that you wrote a post that was inspired by mine! I love your list and I think I’m going to add a couple of these to my list.

Make the most of all the summer days, they are the best ones 🙂
